FORMER Suns ruckman Josh Fraser has warned Gold Coast fans to expect the good and the bad from boom youngster Jaeger O'Meara in his first AFL season.
O'Meara, 18, became the first player to be drafted a year before he was old enough to play in the AFL when the Suns secured the talented midfielder in 2011.
Expectations have continued to build around O'Meara (pictured), with the WA product expected to take the competition by storm when he makes his debut this year.
Former No.1 draft pick Fraser, who played 21 games in his first AFL season with Collingwood at 18, called on fans to give the teenager a chance to find his feet.
"I can guarantee you he will have bad games," Fraser said.
"He will have bad moments when he looks out of place at times. But there will be other times when he will take people's breath away with his ability to clear the footy and get forward.
"You have to remember from reserves footy to senior footy is a big step for anyone and it's going to take time."
When Fraser was selected by Collingwood as the top pick in 1999, the game was a lot different to what it is today.
The hype heaped on young players in the modern era is far greater and Fraser admits can be difficult to control.
"That's often a tendency with early picks and we expect them to burst on to the scene straight away and dominate," Fraser added.
"Anyone who saw him play at reserve grade level will know the talent he has got and I'm really excited about him playing league footy because in time he is going to be an elite midfielder.
"You have to take a step back and understand he is still very much a kid."
Fraser called on Suns supporters to remain positive regardless of how O'Meara performed in his first season.
