ADELAIDE coach Brenton Sanderson insists his Crows are clean and benefiting only from hard work.
But he wants every resource used to clean the AFL of drugs and match-fixing.
"What I'm worried about is as soon as you see a group get stronger or a group get fitter, there is going to be that question mark," he said yesterday.
"Our fans and the people involved in the industry certainly want a clean sport.
"And we should do everything we possibly can to ensure that there are no performance-enhancing drugs and there is no match-fixing either.
"The gambling side of it is getting out of hand, too.
"We have to make sure we are involved in an industry and a sport that is clean. And every club and every coach will back the AFL to ensure we take the right measures to make sure that is the case."
While Essendon has publicly declared it is the AFL club under investigation for alleged systematic use of illegal supplements, the Australia Crime Commission's report claims there is one un-named player using performance-enhancing drugs and seven unidentified clubs are vulnerable to serious illicit-drug use. This has put every AFL club under the spectre of doubt.
For Adelaide, the sudden transformation from being ranked 14th while winning just seven of 22 games in 2011 to a pacesetter that rose to second with 17 wins in the home-and-away series last year in Sanderson's debut season has caught the Crows in the ACC vortex.
"I hear people now on talkback radio questioning not just our club but every club," said Sanderson. "Why did they go so well last year? Or to what do we attribute the sudden improvement?
"It is disappointing because our boys train hard and they play hard and we are a very professional club and do most things pretty well.
"We are clean," added Sanderson declaring the ACC report was a "big shock" to him.
"What I see here, day to day, is we train hard and we recover well. The only supplement we take is protein.
"I just hope we work really hard at clearing the name of our industry and we will not be tarnished."
Sanderson will not give a 100 per cent certainty across all of the AFL. But he will defend the game's reputation against the image created by the ACC report of drug-taking and rorting.
"As I've said, 94.5 per cent of the industry is working really hard (rather than cheating)," said Sanderson. "The AFL ... is a great industry and we just need to get back to playing games and showcasing our sport for what it is."
