PORT Adelaide senior coach Ken Hinkley has no doubt Suns captain Gary Ablett will beat a hand injury and play against the Power at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night.

Hinkley has known the Gold Coast skipper since he was knee-high to his famous father after playing alongside Gary Ablett senior at Geelong.

Hinkley also worked closely with Ablett junior at Geelong and Gold Coast as an assistant coach and must now find a way to shut him down after taking the reins at the Power.

Ablett is battling a right hand injury and is in some doubt for the clash with the undefeated Power but Hinkley is planning for him to be fit.

"A hand injury won't be enough to stop Gaz," Hinkley said. "Unless it is quite significant, he'll play through that."

Hinkley said it would be dangerous to think his three years at Carrara as Guy McKenna's right-hand man would give the Power an extra advantage on Saturday night.

"You have to be careful sometimes. You think you know a lot about people but they can surprise you and upset your plans," he said.

"I expect every one of those young players at the Suns to have improved."

The Power have been the surprise packet of the 2013 season with three wins including a stirring one over Adelaide last Sunday night.

Hinkley said coming off that high would not be a problem.

"The Suns are coming off the same type of game with the Q Clash so we are both in the same boat. Just like Gold Coast we have to focus on recovering well, training well and playing well," he said.

"We know we still have a long way to go. We just have to keep doing what we have been doing.

"Winning the first few weeks has certainly helped ... It's still early days though."

Hinkley has had the Round 4 clash circled since the 2013 fixture was released.

"But it has been based around seeing my daughter Lisa, who still lives up there," he said.
