JARED Brennan says the disappointment in the Suns dressing room after last week's loss to Brisbane could be a turning point for the Gold Coast Suns.

Young sides can often make the mistake of being content with close defeats but when near enough is treated as good enough, teams are doomed to fail.

As the Suns prepared for tomorrow night's clash with Port Adelaide at Metricon Stadium, Brennan said they were developing a deep hatred of losing.

"It was a tough loss to Brisbane," he said.

"We had our chances to win but we didn't take them so it was pretty sombre in the rooms.

"There was not a lot of smiles and not much talk either. You don't like feeling like that but it (can be) a good thing because it means both the younger guys and the senior players hate losing.

"That hate can drive you forward a lot quicker."We are pretty keen to make amends and snag a win against Port this week."

Brennan said any inside knowledge former Suns assistant and current Port senior coach Ken Hinkley may have on the home side would be cancelled out by former Port Adelaide boss Matthew Primus joining the Gold Coast coaching staff.

Both sides are coming off derby games, with the undefeated Power producing a stirring win over Adelaide on Sunday night.

Brennan does not expect the Power to be vulnerable coming down off an emotional high.

"We expect them to be at their best and their best is pretty good at the moment because they are moving the ball very well," Brennan said.

"They have every right to think they are a good chance against us but we think we are a good chance too."

The Gold Coast are no longer easybeats at home.

Metricon Stadium is not quite a fortress yet but with three wins from their past four matches on home soil, there is at least a child-proof lock on the gate.

The Suns will be every chance of upsetting the Power if Brennan can repeat his heroics from last week's Q Clash.

The 28-year-old finished with 30 disposals, 18 contested possessions, 10 clearances, eight inside 50s, five tackles and one scoring assist to be the Gold Coast's best player.

"I felt like I've been training well since October so it was a little bit of reward for the hard work," he said.
