It's Judgment Day for Lions, Suns

Pre-season premiers Brisbane have started the season with two straight defeats after going down at home to Adelaide by 19-points.

THE moment of truth will arrive at Metricon Stadium on Saturday - for two football clubs and their code.

Q Clash 5 is Judgment Day for coach Michael Voss and the Brisbane Lions. For Guy McKenna and his Gold Coast Suns, it could be the defining moment in their short history.

It is also time for the fans to turn up or shut up.

Too many Queensland fans are quick to complain about the lack of media coverage our game gets and the mediocre draws, but they are too slow to get out to the footy.

We should see the biggest crowd yet at Metricon Stadium.

The Suns have won their past three games there and are a red-hot chance to make it four. What fan wouldn't want to see the Suns' first home Q Clash win?

Brisbane fans are desperate to see the Lions get their season back on track with a win. In the pre-season they would have pencilled this game in as a certain four points.

Heat on as Lions hit out at Suns

When those fans complained the NAB Cup grand final was staged at Etihad Stadium and not Metricon Stadium, the AFL's justification was the history of poor crowds at derbies.

Brisbane's diehards, if they are fair dinkum, should make the trip down.

This Q Clash is the biggest between these two sides since the first.

After the Suns' shock first-up win, Brisbane have been favoured to win each game since, and duly delivered.

TattsBet bookmaker Gerard Daffy says when betting opens tomorrow the Lions will be about $1.50 favourites, with the Suns about $2.50. But he predicts a lot of money to come for the Suns during the week.

Lions suddenly in Danger zone

I think the Suns are a brilliant bet at that price.

At this stage of the week before the teams are picked, I'm thinking they will win. It would be their most significant to date.

With winnable games against Port Adelaide and GWS to follow, the Suns could have bettered their 2011 and 2012 season tallies by round 5.

Suddenly the whole season changes.

As we have always thought, when it clicks for this side things could change quickly.

Conversely, a loss for the Lions could be just about catastrophic.

The only dead certainty in the next two months is Melbourne - the Kangaroos, Swans, Eagles, Bombers, Blues, Collingwood and Fremantle are all finals contenders.

Brisbane simply must win this game. Vossy needs it desperately.

Big names dominate big games, and Gary Ablett certainly looms as a match-winner.

He proved in round 1 that when he goes forward, he can win a game off his own boot.

As Crow Patrick Dangerfield showed on Saturday night, Brisbane are vulnerable against goal-kicking midfielders.

If he keeps his spot, Andrew Raines would most likely get the shut-down job on Ablett, but he does not like being dragged deep into defence.

With Jaeger O'Meara emerging as a quality midfielder to join the likes of David Swallow, Harley Bennell, Karmichael Hunt and Matt Shaw, Ablett now has the luxury to go forward for extended periods. Brisbane need goals too and should look closely at Aaron Cornelius.

Although you get the impression no player frustrates Vossy more, he does have a good record against the Suns and they don't have an obvious match-up for him.

He could be the difference for the Lions.
