Brisbane co-captain Jonathan Brown arrested his early season form slump and showed why he is an AFL superstar as he inspired the Lions to a nail-biting two-point win over the Gold Coast in the Q Clash at Metricon Stadium last night.
Brown had just one goal to his name after the first two rounds of the season but he booted five goals in a dominant display to lift the Lions to their first win of the year.
Brown claimed the Marcus Ashcroft Medal for best on ground with 19 disposals and eight marks to go with his five goals.

He even engaged in some Greco-Roman wrestling with Suns fullback Matthew Warnock during the third quarter when he kicked two majors to keep the Gold Coast at bay.
Brown made an ominous start when he snapped a brilliant goal from deep inside a forward pocket in the first two minutes.
Strong marking and straight kicking was the hallmark but he also covered plenty of kilometres around the ground to impose himself physically on the contest.

He stood up and delivered when his team needed him most.
After losses to the Western Bulldogs and Adelaide, the Lions could not afford to lose last night.
It was never pretty nor convincing but it produced four valuable premiership points that will keep the wolves from the door.
Lions coach Michael Voss was delighted with the win regardless of how it looked.
"Scrappy win ... we made it hard for ourselves," he said.
"But I'm proud of their effort.
"The game was going against us a couple of times but we fought our way through it."
Brown said his team's effort was full of character.
"We hung in there," he said.
"The boys showed a lot of guts tonight."
The Suns got to within one point of Brisbane early in the fourth quarter but goals to Tom Rockliff and Rohan Bewick gave Brisbane some breathing room.
The Gold Coast mounted another comeback and closed within two points to set-up a thrilling finish after goals to Aaron Hall and Luke Russell.
But a Pearce Hanley goal sealed Brisbane's fourth-straight win in the Q Clash.
Brisbane led by 15 points at three-quarter time but could have been in front by much more after being wasteful in front of goal for the third-straight week.
The Lions had 14 behinds to go with their 10 goals at the last change and while the slippery conditions made nothing simple, Brisbane did squander a number of prime scoring opportunities.
The Lions did have the best of it for most of the match but were unable to cash-in when they had the Suns at their mercy.
Brisbane led by as much as four goal early in the third term but the Suns roared back into the contest with goals from Brandon Matera, Sam Day, Harley Bennell and Steve May to level the scores midway through the quarter.
Brisbane led by 18 points at halftime after a gritty second quarter when both teams struggled with the greasy Sherrin but late goals to Brown and Matthew Leuenberger helped the visitors extended their six-point buffer from quarter-time.
Lions tagger Andrew Raines did a superb job on Suns skipper Gary Ablett, who had 27 touches but not the usual influence.
Raines had 21 touches of his own.
